Is the Euro overvalued?

Is the Euro broken away from an island continent world?, What is also the Spanish economy?

Anyone who travels the world realizes two things:

1. The Euro is clearly overvalued.
2. Prices in Spain are fully inflated which contributes greatly to the enormous lack of competitiveness of the Spanish economy.

A country with low wages such as Spain but with the prices of goods and services equal to or more expensive than at European level, pose a huge inferiority for the Spanish economy and also reflect that imbalance or some big bubble that has existed for us in this situation so artificial.

Several examples, a client I just explain who has visited his daughter who works at a Swiss multinational. They settled in a hotel next to the heavenly lake in Vevey, with a huge garden and cleaning and typical Swiss landscape. Well the cost of a double room with breakfast was 84 euros / ha. Double with breakfast included. We all know what it costs a hotel of 3 or 4 stars (equivalent to this hotel with Swiss charm) in major Spanish cities.

Over the same thing, he explains that by visiting the shopping centre of Geneva just in the city centre, Sebago shoes encontraton about 40% cheaper than in Barcelona !!!!!!! where we have come, Barcelona much more expensive than the expensive area of Geneva (rue de Confederation) ………. Only need to compare salaries with those of Swiss to Barcelona.

Martin Varsavsky explains in his interesting Blog in the post “The non-failure of the Iphone in Europe”, as Apple sold at the same price the Iphone in Europe than in the United States, clear that there is paid in U.S. dollars, and Europe to same price by 1.55.

Finally you can see the price of a product such as the Standard Epson printer in many different countries and see the costs of the euro zone in relation to the rest of the world for the same product with the same specifications.

One Response to “Is the Euro overvalued?”

  1. Genis Piferrer Says:

Marc. Congratulations for your blog. I’ve been sometimes in Switzerland and the prices are very expensive. One question…The economy of Spain is more competitive that the economy of Switzerland? Simply no. The Spanish economy need a new model for growth eg: added value and I+D
